LET'S SWEEP AND SCRUB

The bristle, brush pattern, and style of a brush make up the ingredients for the perfect brush. First, you need to identify the type of environment you need to clean, and then you need to decide if it requires sweeping, scrubbing or both. If you choose a sweeper, then the machine requires a main cylindrical broom and side brush. If you choose a scrubber or sweeper/scrubber, then the machine requires a scrub brush. You have the option to choose a cylindrical scrub brush or a rotary (disc) scrub brush. Once you have made this choice, the machine cannot be changed over. Choose wisely, because this is one of the determining factors on whether you have an exceptional scrubber versus just an average scrubber. Another important decision to make is the type of bristle on your brush. For example, if you are in the manufacturing industry, I would suggest an aggressive grit bristle for your brush to handle the oil that can build up on the floors. There are many different types of bristle that fit many types of environments. Some of the common types are:

  • Nylon
  • Polypropylene
  • Grit – Scrubbing Only
  • Proex and Union-Fiber

Let’s talk about Proex and how it used. By definition, Proex is highly efficient as an all-purpose filament for indoor and outdoor sweeping applications, including damp or humid environments. It is not recommended for high-temperature sweeping applications. It is polypropylene and derives its name from the x-shape bristles. A mixture of Proex and Crimped Wire is the most versatile and widely used filament combination.

The pattern of the brush is just as important as the bristle type you are using to sweep or scrub.  One of the most prominent sweeping pattern is the eight double row spiral wrap. Some of the most popular brush fill patterns are:

  • Full Wrap
  • Double Row Spiral Wrap
  • Patrol Brush
  • Herringbone
  • Chevron and others.

So when you are ordering your brush, remember these three things can be determining factors on how well your machine will perform. You will be able to choose a brush for any machine using these guidelines. Remember, the brush can make or break your machine’s ability. You can install the perfect brush for the application, and your machine will operate impeccably; or you can install the wrong application brush, and your machine will execute poorly. A dynamite sweeper or scrubber starts with getting the proper brush. You can click here to shop our vast selection of brushes and brooms.
